8 Andhra Pradesh districts shifted to Vizag passport zone

HYDERABAD: Nearly eight months after bifurcation of the state, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) has decided to redraw the jurisdiction of the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad, and move eight districts of Andhra Pradesh – Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nellore, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam – to the Visakhapatnam passport office jurisdiction.

Incidentally, the RPO, Hyderabad, issued the highest number of passports in the country in 2014. Of 7,17,769 applications received, the RPO had issued 6,97,156 passports. Though it was a record of sorts, it could be the last milestone as its jurisdiction would shrink drastically. Mahabubnagar district in Telangana was top in clearing police verifi cation certifi cates in eight days, while it was Krishna in AP, which was done in six days. “The MEA will offi cially announce transfer of eight districts to the Visakhapatnam passport offi ce soon,” regional passport officer, Hyderabad, Ashwini Sattaru said at a media conference here on Thursday.

“From March 1, we will issue separate appointments for on-hold passport applications at all PSKs in the city, Nizamabad and Karimnagar,” the RPO added.
